Turtle Protectors at Wellfleet Audubon Sanctuary

Turtle ProtectorsDuring the Spring months, members of the Cape Abilities Day Habilitation Program made turtle protectors  for the Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuary in Wellfleet Bay. These wire cages protect Diamondback Terrapin Turtles eggs from predators.

Staff members at the Wellfleet Sanctuary place the protectors over the nesting areas to protect the eggs during the incubation period.  They are removed in late summer just before the eggs hatch.

All the members of the “Turtle Team” at Cape Abilities are pleased to be able to help the endangered Diamondback Terrapin Turtles.
