Cape Abilities held its 43rd Annual Meeting at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in Bass River. Tom La Tanzi, Board Chairman, presided over the business meeting.

Beth Patkoske, Paul Zuest, and Nancy Lowery were voted in as new members of the Board of Directors.  Also recognized for their service on the Board were departing members James Z. Taylor, John Damon, Peter Bentivegna, and Paul Lapuc. Thanks were extended to all members of the board for their work on behalf of our organization.

Shaw’s Supermarkets in Orleans and South Yarmouth received the Business Partnership Award.  The South Yarmouth store has employed David Connelly for over 29  years, and the store in Orleans has employed Eric Hussey for close to 13 years.

Ann Mell and Freida White each received the Helen Risch Staff Achievement Award.  Robert Jacobson received the Harold Russell Volunteer Award.  Eric Hussey won the Achievement Award.

Bernyce Donalson, Director of Production and Safety recognized 19 individuals in our organization that have had continual employment for over 10 years in local businesses throughout Cape Cod, and also with Ability 1 at Coast Guard Station Cape Cod at Otis.

Jamie Devlin, a participant in the Life Skills program in Eastham spoke elequently about his experiences at Cape Abilities and in his home town of Wellfleet.

It was a wonderful evening.
