Changing Lives…Growing Futures
Through Innovation, Integration and Excellence!

The most exciting initiative of the year got under way this summer at our Lyndon Center, Hyannis location, and we are so happy to be able to share its progress with you!

The Lyndon Center Renovation Project in Hyannis will improve the quality of daily services for more than 100 participants in our Life Skills Day Habilitation and Community Based Day Supports programs.  This new, vibrant environment will provide additional space for current services and allow us to meet the demands for expansion.

Renovation of the 15,000 square foot Lyndon Center program area will provide solutions to many of the challenges posed by our existing facility, which was built in 1988 and has minimal modifications since that time.

Planned updates will include:

  • transformation of the industrial look and feel of the facility
  • installation of acoustic separation between spaces and clear definition of each program and support space
  • space design that will accommodate the sensory needs of program participants
  • private nursing, changing and physical therapy spaces
  • specialized quiet areas for therapy, sensory integration activities, reading and computer access
  • dedicated staff work stations
  • introduction of natural light into program and activity areas and sun tunnels opening up the central section of the building
  • installation of efficient and adjustable lighting that is suited to the therapeutic needs of the participants
  • HVAC systems updates to ensure energy efficiency and adequate fresh air capacity
  • inviting and restful exterior spaces for socialization and recreation

The essential interior elements of the project will provide dedicated group program spaces and activity areas filled with natural light with ample nursing, changing and therapy spaces, an accessible kitchen and independent living area, appropriate staff work stations, additional parking for program vans and a visual connection to the outdoor leisure spaces.

Principal Nancy Harrod and her team of colleagues have a robust and impressive portfolio of work for academic institutions and non-profits and they have a special focus on the design of inclusive spaces for children and adults on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities.

The General Contractor for both the exterior and interior renovations is Davenport Building Company, which has been building quality homes and commercial projects on Cape Cod for over five decades.

For nearly fifty years, we have improved the lives of thousands of individuals with disabilities, and this new Lyndon Center Renovation Project will increase our ability to deliver the crucial training and personal care that is changing the lives of the people we serve. It will help us move from providing ordinary services to extraordinary services for our friends and loved ones.

There is much work ahead if we are to help our participants reach the goals they so richly deserve.  But we are committed to providing the exceptional services that people with disabilities deserve and need – this major renovation of the Lyndon Center will truly change lives!
