Jamie and Mark from Cape Abilities Bring Home The Gold!

Jamie and Mark cropJamie and Mark are the best of friends. As housemates supported by Cape Abilities’ Adult Family Care (AFC)/Shared Living  Program, they spend a lot of time together, are huge fans of the Patriots and have filled their bedrooms with enough sports memorabilia to start their own Hall of Fame!

When Jamie (left)  moved in last fall, Mark (right) quickly noticed that the two of them had something major in common – they love to compete as individuals.  For nearly ten years, Mark has won his share of Special Olympic medals, specifically in Bocce and Track, but bowling is a passion.  “I love bowling,” says Mark,  “and everybody knows me at Special Olympics!”

Jamie discovered a love for bowling last fall and joined the Special Olympics Bowling Team shortly thereafter.  Earlier this month, he competed for the first time in the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament in Worcester, and, to everyone’s  delight, he won the gold medal!  “I felt surprised and awesome to win first place!”  Jamie said, with his addictive smile.

But the competitive spirit these two share is not limited to the playing field: Mark is very involved in volunteering with Classic Cars Cape Cod, Family Pantry in Yarmouth, and a local Meals on Wheels program.  Jamie is an active volunteer with the Red Cross and the International Fund For Animal Welfare. This incredible pair is winning in the most important game of all, the game of life.  And, unknowingly, they are helping others to achieve similar goals.

“Jamie and Mark are extremely inspiring to others,” notes  Kristina Caterino, an AFC/Shared Living Care Manager for Cape Abilities and the caregiver for this dynamic duo. “It is an honor for all of us to support them in leading such active and involved lives.”

Congratulations to Jamie and Mark for your tremendous Special Olympic success!  The entire Cape Abilities family is so very proud of you both.
